the Aug 16. The Schäfer relieved from the government enclosure bevil Hospital Hongkong, in the hope that he may find it possible to make her a grant towards the expenses of a course of rest and treatment rendered necessary by illness contracted there,
Mrs Schäfer contracted plague in the discharge of her duty.

undermined by "the attack that she afterwards contracted dysentery. On her return to England in September last she was seen on behalf of The Association by Sir Patrick Manson and in accordance with his suggestion was sent to the country for a month; after that holiday she was better though still suffering from local pain.
